RECURRENT-GB
Case Study

RECURRENT-GB

RECURRENT-GB is a UK multi-centre randomised controlled trial (approximately 150 adults) coordinated through NHS sites, with academic leadership from the University of Oxford and OCTRU. It assesses whether repeat surgery for recurrent glioblastoma improves survival and quality of life. This aggressive brain tumour almost invariably recurs, yet repeat-surgery decisions vary because high-quality evidence is limited. Disease severity, cognitive decline and participant burden make longitudinal quality-of-life follow-up particularly difficult.

RADAR-base solution

RADAR-base supports a hybrid, decentralised approach to trial follow-up, with flexible collection of active patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and passive wearable data. Patient-preference-sensitive participation and proxy reporting are intended to improve accessibility while reducing reliance on clinic visits.

Impact

This model could improve the feasibility and completeness of quality-of-life monitoring, identify deterioration earlier and strengthen economic evaluation across NHS trial sites. If validated and adopted more widely, standardised digital endpoints could inform neuro-oncology trials, care pathways, resource allocation and potentially NICE guidance.
